Welcome to the Maryland Board of Nursing

Beginning on Friday October 16, 2020, the Maryland Board of Nursing will reopen to the public for DOCUMENT DROP OFF ONLY. You may drop off applications and other documents between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm daily. Please have all documents copied prior to dropping them off as we will be unable to copy them for you. 

All documents must be in a sealed envelope with your name clearly printed and attention to the appropriate department. 

 

Please note the lobby remains closed to the public. All other services will be provided by appointment only. If you require in-person assistance with your license or certification, you must request an appointment (by email only) with the appropriate department by using the emails links listed below: 

 

If you are requesting an appointment, you must include "APPOINTMENT" in the subject line of the email or your request will not be processed. Once your request is reviewed, you will be contacted by a department specialist with the next available appointment date and time. You must respond to that email in order to confirm the appointment or the date will not be reserved.

Notice to graduates of the National School of Nursing and Allied Health (NSNAH) Practical Nursing Program:

Please be advised that on September 23, 2020, the Maryland Board of Nursing reviewed documentation regarding the National School of Nursing and Allied Health (NSNAH) Practical Nursing Program, a PN education program formerly located in Arlington, Virginia (a closed nursing education program, no longer in operation), and determined that the National School of Nursing and Allied Health (NSNAH) Practical Nursing Program is NOT substantially equivalent to the PN education programs approved in Maryland. As a result, graduates of the National School of Nursing and Allied Health (NSNAH) Practical Nursing Program DO NOT meet minimum qualifications for full PN licensure in Maryland.​

You are encouraged to consider the Board's finding that the National School of Nursing and Allied Health (NSNAH) Practical Nursing Program's PN education program is not substantially equivalent before applying for either temporary or full PN licensure in Maryland. Please be advised that if you choose to submit an application for temporary or full PN licnsure and pay the associated application fee, despite this notice, all fees collected by the Board are non-refundable.


Notice to graduates of the American International Institute of Health (AIIH) Practical Nursing Program:

Please be advised that on September 23, 2020, the Maryland Board of Nursing reviewed documentation regarding the American International Institute of Health (AIIH) Practical Nursing Program, a PN education program formerly located in Arlington, Virginia (a closed nursing education program, no longer in operation), and determined that the American International Institute of Health (AIIH) Practical Nursing Program is NOT substantially equivalent to the PN education programs approved in Maryland. As a result, graduates of the Star College Practical Nursing Program DO NOT meet minimum qualifications for full PN licensure in Maryland.​

Please be advised that on June 30, 2020, the Maryland Board of Nursing reviewed documentation regarding the Radians College Nursing Program, an RN and LPN education program formerly located at 1025 Vermont Avenue, Suite 200, Washington, DC (a closed nursing program, no longer in operation), and determined that Radians College Nursing Program is NOT substantially equivalent to the RN and PN education programs approved in Maryland. As a result, graduates of Radians College Nursing Program’s RN and PN education programs DOES NOT meet minimum qualifications for full RN and PN licensure in Maryland.​

Amended Order summary:

  • Expands COVID-19 testing to any individual who believes it necessary. Healthcare providers are required to order the COVID-19 test on demand. (Note: out-of-pocket expenses may apply if the test is not covered by a health plan.)
  • Out of state travelers to Marylander or Marylanders returning to the state should get tested for COVID.
  • Includes assisted living staff in serial re-testing.
  • Makes it clear that anyone violating this order is subject to administrative and criminal sanctions.

Notice to graduates of Capscare Academy for Health Care Education nursing education program:

The Maryland Board of Nursing reviewed documentation submitted by Capscare Academy for Health Care Education and determined that it is NOT substantially equivalent to the RN education program approved in Maryland.

Graduates of Capscare Academy for Health Care Education’s RN education program DO NOT​ meet minimum qualifications for full RN licensure in Maryland at this time.​​

Effective March 12, 2020, the Maryland Board of Nursing's office is closed to the public per Governor Hogan's Executive Order. All RNs, LPNs, APRNs with Compact privileges and CNAs whose license or certificate expires in March and April of 2020 must obtain a CHRC in addition to processing an online renewal. The tracking identification number must be entered onto the application in order for the renewal application to process. Please note: Upon completion of the online renewal application, transaction receipt is only the beginning step of the renewal process and not the actual renewal.
